SOLVESON-MOOS-ABRAHAMSON VFW Post 2260, 830 E Wisconsin Ave, Oconomowoc, WI 53066:
VFW Post 2260 was formed to help veterans and families of veterans in the city of Oconomowoc, veterans’ VA hospitals and the VA Home for Children in Eaton Rapid, Michigan. VFW Post 2260 received its charter on October 14, 1931. It had 19 members and has grown to 200 members (as of May, 2023). The Post was named after three men who served and died in World War I, namely: Walter Solveson, Martin Moos and Herbert Abrahamson.
The first meeting place was above the old Lorleberg Hardware on North Main Street. The second meeting place was above Stevens Drug Store and the third location was the Knights of Pythias Hall on South Main Street. After the men came home from World War II, they met at the Armory. On December 12, 1947, the Post became incorporated and registered with the State of Wisconsin. The post then worked on various fund-raising projects to enable them to buy a plot of land on Walnut Street. On November 10, 1964, we sold this land and purchased our first VFW meeting place on Highway 67 north of Oconomowoc. We met here until March 31, 1970 when we purchased the present VFW clubhouse at 830 E. Wisconsin Avenue.
